At the request of George and Charles Patton William Hughes the following Bill of Sale was
recorded January the 30th. 1799 --
THIS INDENTURE made on [sic] concluded on this twenty second day of January 1799 between
William Hughes of the one part and George and Charles Patten of Washington County and the
State of Maryland of the other part
Witnesseth that the said George and Charles Patten for and in consideration of the
sum of twenty pounds six Shillings and two pence half penny Current money to them in hand
paid the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge and themselves to be fully satisfied
therewith have granted bargained sold released aliened and confirmed and by these presents
to grant bargain sell release alien and confirm unto the said William hughes his heirs
executors administrators and Assigns one Grey Mare about thirteen hands and a half high two
years old last Spring, and one brown horse about fourteen hands and a half High two years
old last fall to which said Grey mare and brown Horse we the said George and Charles Patten
for ourselves and persons claiming under us do relinquish all right title claim interest
demand unto the said William Hughes his heirs and Assigns and of the said Grey mare and
brown horse we have this day made delivery unto the said Willaim Hughes in the presence of
John Furrell acknowledging the same to be his right & property which right and property in
the above described Mare & Horse to the said Willaim Hughes his heirs give the said George
and Charles Patten from our selves our heirs and all persons claiming under us and from all
and every claim whatsoever will forever well and truly defend given under our hands and
seals the day and year first above written Witness

Washington County sct. Came George Patten and Charles Patten before me the subscriber a
Justice of the peace in and for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the within writing to
be their act and Deed and the property therein mentioned to be the right and Estate of
William Hughes his heirs or assigns
