The National Society, Sons of the American Revolution is a patriotic, historical, and educational organization whose object is to perpetuate the memory of men, who, by their services or sacrifices during the war of the American Revolution, achieved the independence of the American people. The Maryland Society was organized on April 21, 1889, when thirty-six charter members met in the Old Senate Chamber in the State House in Annapolis, the same room in which General George Washington resigned his commission as Commander of the Continental Army. The MDSSAR is the eighth oldest state society. Read more about the Maryland Society.
The John Paul Jones chapter was organized on 29 July 1972 and draws its membership from Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
