The John Paul Jones house
in Fredricksburg, Virginia, is the only home he owned in America. His
brother William Paul is buried in the Masonic cemetery there, but the Fredricksburg
Lodge cannot positively declare membership. Dr John K Read, a nephew of
Franklin's wife Debby, was instrumental in founding the Grand Lodge of Virginia and
introduced Jones to Jefferson, Henry Clay and other influential Virginians. Jones is believed to have met Lafayette and Baron DeKalb at Gadsby's tavern in
Alexandria in 1777.
